Every year, SEC gameday fashion becomes more and more relevant. While most fans are there for the game, many also view game day as an opportunity to socialize and enjoy the traditions and fashion associated with football culture. Now, gamedays are not just an opportunity to show off your school spirit, but also your personal style.
I believe that the key to an easily elevated ‘SEC-level’ outfit is not about the clothing itself, but more about the accessories and how the outfit is executed. Whether you are rocking a basic tee or animal-print matching set, the details of the outfit is what makes you stand out.
Every outfit should begin with the main article of clothing, whether it’s a dress, set, top, or statement bottoms. Find something you want to style your outfit around, and build from there. The “sandwich method” is something I like to do when building a gameday outfit. The idea is to coordinate the top and bottom of your entire look using similar colors and patterns. For example, start with a crisp white t-shirt and your favorite pair of jeans. Then, pair a trucker hat with red details with red ballet flats and you’ve instantly elevated a simple outfit, to a chic, gameday statement.
Some staples I would consider for this football season are a vibrant pair of sunglasses, a fun pair of shoes, and a variety of bracelets and layered necklaces. Or, even better, have all three! Look for a bold pair of sunglasses, maybe a pair with razorback red, that not only provide sun protection but also make your outfit stand out. When it comes to shoes, choose a fun style but keep comfort in mind – game days require a lot of walking. Lastly,I firmly believe you can never have too much jewelry.Find pieces that can be styled not only for gamedays, but also with your everyday looks.
For some extra styling advice, I spoke with University of Arkansas student and fashion enthusiast, Miriam Lowe.
“Never question whether it’s ‘too much.’ The more accessories, the bolder the look, the better,” Lowe said. “I firmly believe a gameday outfit is the event, so think outside the box, have a little fun and aim for a look that gets you stopped in the stands.”
This season, Miriam is looking forward to seeing mixed patterns, lace pants, capri jorts, and perhaps even a few rhinestones making their way into the gameday outfit rotation.
While all these tips can help elevate an outfit, the best look is one that you are most comfortable in! Fashion is supposed to be fun and individual, so take gamedays as an opportunity to show off your style and personality.
