Coffee Club: Favorite Fall Drinks from Fayetteville Coffee Shops

By Afton Massey

Hi friends! It is that time of the year again. Everything is starting to feel cozy and right just as it should. The leaves fell for the first time today and my heart overflowed with joy. It’s finally fall! It’s time to start watching Gilmore Girls, throw on your favorite chunky knit sweater, bake fall treats, drink seasonal lattes, and have cozy nights snuggled up with a blanket. All is right in the world this time of year. With all of this being said, I have to brag about my favorite part of fall – the portion I look forward to the most of all, and that is ordering a yummy drink at my favorite local coffee shops.

I have to admit, I am a coffee critic at heart. When I tell you I am obsessed with coffee, well it’s true. As an avid coffee connoisseur (three cups per day), my go to drink is an americano with the tiniest splash of cream. It may sound boring, but it is my favorite. So, trying all these fun fall lattes was a good switch up for me, and I loved every second of it.

Living in Fayetteville has opened my eyes to just how blessed we are to have the best coffee shops.

After taste testing some fall menu items from my favorite coffee shops, I landed on some of my favorite drinks of the season. I was impressed with the creativity of menus this year. No more plain old pumpkin spice, just out of the box drinks. A few of my fall menu favorites were from the following coffee shops: Puritan, Word Coffee, and Pink House Alchemy. And an extra bonus, all the baristas were so kind and made this experience so much fun!

My personal favorite and the most unique latte I tried was the “Harvest Latte” from Word Coffee. I usually go for iced but I ordered it hot in lieu of the fall season. It has sweet potato, pumpkin, pandan coconut cream, amaretto, espresso, milk, and garnished with black salt and a toasted marshmallow. The barista told me that this was their take on a pumpkin spice latte, but made it more unique. I think they absolutely nailed it. All the flavor profiles combined made one deliciously smooth latte. The hints of sweet potato, spice and marshmallow were incredible. Thank you Word Coffee for this life changing latte.

Next, I tried the banana bread latte from Puritan Coffee. Like the Harvest Latte, I ordered this one hot. It was just the right amount of sweetness and such a comforting drink. I tasted the hints of banana along with a nutty flavor. It tasted like there was a touch of cinnamon and brown sugar added too. This drink did not disappoint, and I thought it was so yummy. Not to mention, it literally smelled like a loaf of banana bread just got out of the oven.

Lastly, I had a pumpkin butternut spice latte with vanilla cream from Pink House Alchemy. I had to get at least one drink iced, going back to my roots, and this was the one! This drink was a classic and so delicious. It had the original pumpkin spice flavor, but bolder. The vanilla cream brought it all together and made a smooth, tasty drink. The barista put beet powder in the vanilla cream to dye it a cute fall color, which I thought was a fun added touch. Pink House created a staple drink in my opinion!

With Fayetteville having arguably the best coffee scene, I enjoyed visiting multiple locations on my fall coffee tour. If you’re looking for a new staple to get you in the fall spirit, stop by these shops, I promise they won’t disappoint.
